The history of Sorikalmunai gladly records 27th August 2017 as a memorable day .Rt.Rev.Dr.Joseph Ponniah administers the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation to 46 girls and boys of the parish. It was followed by the blessing and solemn opening of the new mission house. The Bishop, Vicar General, the procurator, priests from other parishes, religious, and faithful were warmly welcomed with a dance. His Lordship in his speech thanked all the people for their contribution towards the new mission house in cash and kind. “Now Sorikalmunai will be a pleasant place for the priests to serve the people. May God bless all the people for their contribution and I wish the people in Sorikalmunai will continue to flourish spiritually economically and educationally” he said. Finally His Lordship said “Rev.Fr.Thiruchelvam who has been the course of completing this new mission house is an achiever”.
Rev.Fr.Thiruchelvam , the parish priest in his speech shared that he thanks God Almighty who has made him the instrument to his work, and thanked the Bishop for his guidance and support , and all his brother priests and religious who had been his support in completing the task. He continue to mention that the foundation was laid by Rev.Fr.Jesudasan the former parish priest so it was a joined effort of the priests.
